A major challenge to institution-wide assessment efforts is often the difficulty in aligning assessment outcomes at the micro level--the course competencies--to the program competencies and ultimately to macro-level competencies of the college or university. How do we ensure that what students are learning in their courses aligns with the learning outcomes expected upon their completion of their academic programs? Or the even broader college or university outcomes expected of all graduates? In this session, the presenters invite participants to examine a process recently developed and implemented in the Higher Education Programs at Capella University, one that methodically, efficiently, and effectively enables faculty, administrators, and course designers to collaborate on the alignment of assessment outcomes from the course to the program to the university level. Participants will engage in discussion and activities to consider how to adapt the steps of the process to their own assessment efforts.
