After conducting several workshops about all aspects of assessment (e.g. outcomes, methods, data analysis), the Office of Assessment at The University of Texas at Dallas began exploring alternatives to workshops as means of providing professional development. When given the challenge to develop a university wide assessment, the office used this as an opportunity to develop collaborative learning opportunities for academic support staff. Based on principles from design thinking and the cycle of assessment, these learning opportunities were designed to increase their assessment knowledge while at the same time generating a common set of measures, a question bank, that could be used across the university. Join us as we share how we engaged our campus to create quality assessments for an institution-wide assessment plan.
